Comparing Slide and Rotate Performance Without Misleading Averages
Lateral drilling performance is often summarized using a single average ROP, but that number can be strongly influenced by how much footage was slid versus rotated. Slide drilling introduces motor speed, toolface control, weight-transfer effects, directional objectives, and different surface-signal interpretations that make direct comparison with rotary drilling difficult.
